Shereif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, welcomed Glen Moroney, Founder and CEO of Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, at the ministry’s office in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting focused on exploring investment opportunities in Egypt’s Nile and maritime tourism sectors during Moroney’s visit to the country.
The meeting commenced with a short film showcasing the company’s activities, the scale of its operations, the design of its cruise ships, and the luxurious services it offers clients worldwide as part of its travel programs. The presentation included details about the number of ships owned by the company, their various categories, and future expansion plans, particularly concerning Egyptian tourist destinations.
During their discussion, investment opportunities in Egypt’s tourism sector were a key topic, especially in Nile and maritime cruises. Moroney expressed his interest in investing in building and operating new cruise ships within Egypt and promoting international travel programs that the company intends to organize there. He noted his visits to Alexandria and Ain Sokhna to assess ports and docks suitable for accommodating the company’s planned vessels.
The minister welcomed these investment initiatives, affirming the ministry’s readiness to facilitate necessary procedures to support this endeavor. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to encouraging tourism investment, particularly in the rapidly developing Nile tourism sector that is witnessing increased interest from tourists. Fathy reiterated the ministry’s dedication to enhancing this significant tourism product, which distinguishes Egypt as a unique travel destination.
He added that expanding such investments would contribute to increasing available hotel capacity in Egypt, supporting efforts to accommodate anticipated rises in tourist numbers in the near future.
Fathy highlighted that Egypt’s Nile tourism product offers a comprehensive travel experience that combines various tourism styles. It allows tourists to enjoy cultural tourism through visits to archaeological sites along their journey, recreational activities, spiritual tourism represented by stops along the Holy Family route, as well as traditional Egyptian cuisine. This reflects the current strategy of the ministry to showcase the diverse attractions of Egyptian tourist destinations.
The meeting was attended by Salah Badira, Operations Director for Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours in the Middle East, and Rana Gohar, Advisor to the Minister for Communication and External Relations and General Supervisor of International Relations and Agreements at the ministry.
