Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Latvian Foreign Minister.

On Saturday, June 6, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Ms. Baiba Braže, the Foreign Minister of Latvia, during the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Governors’ Meeting.

Minister Abdel Aty congratulated Ms. Braže on her reappointment following the formation of the new Latvian government, praising the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Latvia. He expressed a desire to further enhance cooperation across various sectors.

He highlighted the significance of the political consultations held in Cairo in January 2025 at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers, emphasizing the need for regular meetings to strengthen bilateral ties and provide a platform for discussing regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The minister noted promising opportunities for economic and investment collaboration between the two nations, particularly in digitalization and information technology, given Latvia’s advanced expertise in these fields. He pointed out that ongoing digital transformation projects in Egypt present attractive investment opportunities.

Moreover, he underscored the importance of establishing a joint Egyptian-Latvian Business Council to enhance communication between business communities in both countries, encourage mutual investments, share expertise, build capacities, and explore collaboration opportunities with investment and financial institutions. This would also aim to increase trade volume between Egypt and Latvia in line with their capabilities and relationship level.
