Zamalek and Salah Moussa Negotiating to Resolve Financial Dispute

Written byFerdous Saeed

The ongoing financial dispute between Zamalek SC and Moroccan player Salah Moussa is nearing resolution as Tunisian lawyer Ali Belhaj revealed that negotiations are underway to reach an amicable agreement regarding outstanding payments.

In a statement on the program “Captain” with Ahmed Hassan broadcasted on DMC, Belhaj, who represents Moussa, noted, “The issues facing Zamalek are not unique to the club; similar situations occur across various clubs, including those in Tunisia. It’s a common occurrence for even the most prestigious teams.”.

He added, “Currently, we are negotiating with Zamalek to resolve Moussa’s case in the coming days, which would be beneficial for both parties as we seek a friendly solution.”.

Belhaj elaborated that discussions involve the player, his agent, and Zamalek regarding the amount owed and the payment structure—whether it would be settled in installments over two, three, or four months, along with an initial advance payment to facilitate an agreement.

According to Belhaj, the total outstanding amount is $800,000, encompassing salaries and compensation. Both the club and the player are looking for a middle ground concerning this payment. He acknowledged the financial challenges faced by Zamalek but expressed optimism that a resolution could be reached soon.

As a lawyer, he emphasized that negotiations should ideally occur before any ruling is made. Once a judgment is issued, players typically find themselves in a stronger position to assert their demands. “Moussa has been patient through this process and understandably wants all his dues,” he stated.

Belhaj clarified that disciplinary sanctions are separate from payment obligations. However, he noted that many cases he has witnessed were resolved once payments were made, strengthening the club’s position while also encouraging cooperation from players.

He mentioned that if Zamalek resolves some of its disputes, it could lead to lifting of disciplinary sanctions against them. The club has requested a suspension of these penalties while they negotiate with Moussa. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has asked Moussa to clarify his stance on the matter; if an agreement is reached, it will likely be favorable for lifting any sanctions.

Belhaj concluded by highlighting the significant role played by Salem Mohamed Salem in resolving Moussa’s situation. Both the player and all parties involved are eager for a resolution. Notably, CAS had initially set June 4 as the deadline for feedback regarding Moussa’s case. However, following intervention from mediators and at Moussa’s request, they have sought an extension from CAS until Tuesday, June 9, as part of their efforts to resolve this issue.
