World Champion’s Coach: Gassiev Ready for Yoka Challenge at IBA PRO 19

Written byMarwa Hussein

Moscow – Ahly Online – Anton Kadushin, coach of IBA heavyweight champion Murad Gassiev, has stated that his team does not view French boxer Tony Yoka as a more dangerous opponent than previous challengers. He noted that the difference among boxers lies in their style and technical experience, ahead of their upcoming bout in the main event of ‘IBA PRO 19’ scheduled for July 11 in Moscow.

Gassiev has gained significant attention in the Arab region after winning the heavyweight world title at ‘IBA PRO 13’ last year in Dubai, where he defeated Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev by technical knockout in the sixth round, becoming the first Russian boxer to claim a heavyweight world title in over 13 years.

Kadushin explained that the current training camp began with a phase of high-altitude training in the Terskol and Kislovodsk regions, before transitioning to technical and tactical preparations near Moscow. He emphasized that the focus is currently on improving performance inside the ring and enhancing Gassiev’s mental readiness.

He added: “We are working on improving Murad’s boxing quality both technically and tactically, while also placing great importance on mental preparation and competitive mindset.”.

Kadushin pointed out that the coaching staff made adjustments to the training schedule after replacing American Michael Hunter with Frenchman Tony Yoka, aiming to better simulate Yoka’s style and physical attributes.

He clarified: “I don’t see Yoka as more dangerous than Hunter; he is just different in style. Hunter has greater professional experience, while Yoka boasts a strong Olympic background and impressive physical presence.”.

Yoka, who won a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics, enters this match with ambitions to achieve a historic milestone by becoming the first French heavyweight champion in professional boxing. Meanwhile, Gassiev aims to defend his title and continue his successful journey on the global stage.
