The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has commended Egypt for its significant steps to enhance its financial capabilities in addressing disasters and climate risks through the development of a national disaster risk financing strategy.

In this context, Cairo hosted a national workshop organized by UN agencies in collaboration with the National Committee for Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction, which operates under the Prime Minister’s office. The workshop aimed to support the government’s efforts in improving public financing based on risk understanding, enhancing preparedness and recovery policies, and mitigating the increasing impacts of disasters and climate shocks on communities, infrastructure, and the national economy.

The Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Egypt emphasized that developing a disaster risk financing strategy aims to provide the government with a structured framework of financial tools, thereby enhancing its capacity to effectively respond to losses resulting from disasters.
