Egypt and Japan Discuss Enhanced Cooperation in Urban Development and Logistics

On Friday, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with the President and CEO of the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN) during his official visit to Japan. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in infrastructure, investment, and urban development.

Minister Abdel Aty highlighted the significant advancements in Egypt’s infrastructure, including new road networks and modern urban cities. He expressed hopes for increasing JOIN’s presence in the Egyptian market, pointing to available opportunities for cooperation between the corporation and leading Egyptian companies in the infrastructure sector. This collaboration aims to support joint projects in Arab and African markets.

Furthermore, he outlined the positive developments in the Egyptian economy as a result of reforms implemented over recent years, which have bolstered Egypt’s competitiveness and attracted foreign investments. He emphasized that Egypt offers Japanese companies a platform to diversify production centers and supply chains, showcasing the competitive advantages of the Egyptian market, its strategic location, and its network of free trade agreements linking it to Arab, African, and European markets.

The meeting also addressed potential cooperation with the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The minister welcomed the ongoing engagement between JOIN and the economic zone, expressing a desire to translate this cooperation into tangible investments in infrastructure projects and logistics services. He stressed the importance of establishing a Japanese industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone to enhance the presence of Japanese companies and deepen economic partnerships between Egypt and Japan.
