Dr. Iman Kareem, the General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure that individuals with disabilities benefit from various advantages and services provided by the state in sectors such as housing, health, and education.
The council is continuously working to eliminate challenges that may hinder their access to their rights in a complete and equitable manner.
This statement was made during a radio interview on the program “Hal Biladna” with journalist Ahmed Khairy, where the importance of Egypt’s participation in the Inclusive Africa Conference 2026 held in Kenya was discussed. This conference is one of the major regional events addressing issues related to disability and assistive technology.
Dr. Kareem highlighted that the conference focuses on promoting the use of assistive technology as a fundamental pillar for integrating persons with disabilities into society.
She emphasized that the concept of assistive technology extends beyond just prosthetic devices or wheelchairs; it also includes digital platforms, applications, and technical innovations that facilitate daily life and enhance independence and community participation.
Egypt’s participation in this event represents an important opportunity to exchange experiences and successful practices with African countries while gaining insights into the latest supportive technologies for persons with disabilities, contributing to the enhancement of services provided to them within Egypt.
Dr. Iman Kareem stressed the significance of involving persons with disabilities themselves in formulating policies, programs, and decisions that affect them, affirming that the council adopts a clear approach ensuring that their needs and aspirations are integral to planning and implementation processes.
She pointed out that assistive technology has become one of the most crucial tools enabling persons with disabilities to rely on themselves and make decisions more independently, thereby enhancing their full and effective participation in society. For instance, individuals with severe mobility impairments can now utilize advanced technologies to control wheelchairs and various devices through innovative technological means, providing them greater independence and significantly improving their quality of life.
In this context, the National Academy for Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities in New Administrative Capital stands out as a leading national model reflecting Egypt’s commitment to localizing cutting-edge assistive technologies and making them available not only at a local level but also serving Arab and African communities.
