Egypt’s Prime Minister Meets China Energy Engineering Corporation Head to Discuss Cooperation

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, met with Dr. Ni Chen, Chairman of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited, along with his accompanying delegation. The meeting, attended by Engineer Mahmoud Asmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, focused on exploring avenues for mutual cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly expressed his pleasure in reconnecting with Dr. Ni Chen following their initial encounter during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum held in China.
During their discussions, a range of cooperation proposals were reviewed, particularly concerning support for the national electricity grid, advancements in new and renewable energy, and seawater desalination projects.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s significant focus on new and renewable energy initiatives, aiming for these sources to contribute 45% to the country’s overall energy mix by 2028. He expressed enthusiasm for partnering with China Energy Engineering Corporation to localize the production of components needed for renewable energy to meet domestic needs and facilitate exports.
He also highlighted Egypt’s interest in seawater desalination efforts and the localization of desalination plant components within the country, looking forward to collaboration with the company given its substantial capabilities.
In response, Dr. Ni Chen expressed his pleasure at meeting the Prime Minister again and praised the fruitful cooperation between both parties over recent months. This includes signing memorandums of understanding with Egyptian entities for collaboration in water desalination and renewable energy production.
Dr. Ni Chen noted that his company’s global operations have expanded significantly, with assets valued at $140 billion. He commended Egypt’s progress in development coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Egyptian-Chinese relations celebrated last May.
The meeting also featured a presentation from Dr. Ni Chen detailing proposals for collaboration in supporting electricity networks, new and renewable energies, and seawater desalination efforts. He reiterated the company’s commitment to addressing Egypt’s energy needs while increasing investments in energy and water desalination sectors.
Minister Asmat highlighted the ongoing productive collaboration with the company in new and renewable energy sectors as well as localizing power plant components in the near future while strengthening the national electricity grid. He reviewed results from consultations held with the company’s delegation during their current visit to Egypt.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly directed that executable plans be developed for cooperation proposals within a specific timeline, affirming his commitment to facilitating processes for future projects initiated by the company.
