Enrique Riquelme, a potential candidate for the presidency of Real Madrid, has sparked considerable debate following his recent comments regarding the future of the club’s coaching staff. This comes amid increasing speculation linking Portuguese manager José Mourinho to the position, potentially succeeding Spanish coach Álvaro Arbeloa.

While Riquelme acknowledged Mourinho’s capabilities, he expressed reservations about appointing him in the upcoming phase. He emphasized that his vision for the royal club requires a different approach to coaching.

In statements reported by Madrid Universal, Riquelme said, “From a technical standpoint, Mourinho is a great coach with a strong history in football, but I do not see him as the right choice for this current phase where Real Madrid needs a different project focused on building and development.”.

The presidential hopeful elaborated on his future vision for the club, stating that he aims to restore Real Madrid’s historical identity through a project that prioritizes immediate results while steering clear of long-term experimental phases.

Riquelme also outlined key aspects of his administrative plan, revealing his intention to appoint club legend Raúl González as the sporting director. Additionally, Fernando Hierro may take charge of the club’s academy, relying on individuals with significant ties to the team.

He concluded by indicating that he would announce Real Madrid’s first signings before the end of this week, while also noting that he has yet to finalize who will lead the project as head coach if he wins the election.
