The recent 38th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Ground Handling Conference, held in Egypt from May 19 to May 21, 2026, highlighted the rapid advancements in the Egyptian civil aviation sector. The event underscored Egypt’s successful efforts to establish itself as a leading regional hub for hosting specialized global events and enhancing the air transport industry in line with international standards.
During the conference, IATA leaders commended Egypt’s strong capabilities to boost growth rates in the civil aviation sector, surpassing global averages. Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Safety and Security, noted that long-term forecasts predict an annual growth rate of 3.4% in air travel demand within the Egyptian market until 2050. In a high-growth scenario, this rate could rise to 3.8%, reflecting significant opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment.
Monika Mijstrikova, IATA’s Director of Ground Operations, emphasized the operational resilience demonstrated by the Egyptian civil aviation sector in managing regional and operational challenges. She praised the ongoing efforts to enhance ground handling services to meet top global standards.
The conference served as a prestigious international platform for exchanging experiences and formulating innovative solutions that support the future of global ground handling. Egypt’s selection to host this event for the first time since 2009 marks a new international recognition of progress in its civil aviation sector and reinforces its position as a distinguished regional hub in air transport.
