Dr. Rehab Taha Appointed to Oversee Non-Banking Financial Sector
Dr. Islam Azam, the head of the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), has appointed Dr. Rehab Taha to oversee the “Supervision and Regulation of the Non-Banking Financial Sector” while continuing her role as the FRA’s Chief Advisor for Research and Development.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the FRA noted that this appointment is part of its strategy to enhance regulatory mechanisms across various non-banking financial activities, aiming to improve organizational efficiency and support the country’s economic goals while revitalizing market activity and protecting consumer rights.
Since June 2019, Dr. Rehab Taha has served as the FRA’s Chief Advisor for Research and Development, bringing specialized expertise in regulatory policies and the development of non-banking financial markets. She also supervises institutional research and development efforts aimed at supporting regulatory decision-making processes and enhancing institutional performance.
Throughout her career at the FRA, Dr. Taha has played a pivotal role in developing legislative and regulatory frameworks by participating in drafting numerous executive decisions governing various activities. She has contributed to establishing trading rules for futures contracts and led a team responsible for implementing Basel III standards aimed at improving risk management efficiency and financial stability in the sector.
Dr. Taha has also been instrumental in developing standards for real estate appraisal and evaluating machinery and equipment, as well as contributing to standards for assessing intangible assets, thereby facilitating accurate fair value determination for intellectual and innovative assets. This supports startups and entrepreneurs in securing financing, fostering an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship in Egypt.
Moreover, she actively participated in formulating and monitoring the implementation of the FRA’s strategy (2023–2026) to enhance the contribution of the non-banking financial sector to economic growth and achieve sustainable development goals.
Dr. Taha holds both a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Investment and Finance, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Cairo University. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, with a diploma in feasibility studies and investment project evaluation from Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Science. Her scholarly work includes several published papers in prestigious international journals.
She boasts extensive academic and practical experience in financial markets, having served as an adjunct lecturer on investment and finance at several Egyptian universities, including Cairo University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Modern Sciences & Arts University, and October University for Modern Sciences & Arts.
