Water Technology Schools: A Step Towards Building Skilled Generations, Says Minister

Dr. Hani Sewilam, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, convened a meeting to discuss the implementation of a cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Education and Technical Education. This protocol aims to establish “Water Technology Schools” that will contribute to training skilled technical personnel to meet the needs of the water and irrigation sector. The meeting included several leaders from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
During the meeting, the Head of the Regional Center for Training in Water Resources and Irrigation, representing the ministry in executing the protocol, presented the current status of the agreement and proposed steps for its activation. The discussion also covered coordination mechanisms with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to expedite the implementation of the protocol’s objectives.
The participants reviewed proposed educational and training programs as well as suggested departments in various fields that would facilitate graduating specialized technicians for different areas within the ministry. They also explored ways to utilize available training resources at various sectors, agencies, and facilities within the ministry, including training rooms, workshops, mechanical stations, and research centers. This initiative aims to prepare graduates who are scientifically and practically qualified to work in fields related to water resource management and irrigation.




Dr. Sewilam emphasized the importance of investing in building human capacities and qualifying specialized technical personnel as a fundamental pillar for the second generation of water management systems (Water 2.0). He noted that establishing these schools is a significant step toward preparing new generations equipped with the necessary technical and technological skills to support development efforts and achieve sustainability in water resource management.
