USA Dominates Australia in World Cup 2026 Match with Two Early Goals
The United States men’s national soccer team asserted its dominance early in the match against Australia, scoring two goals in the first half during their second group stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The first goal came in the 11th minute when Australian defender Cameron Burgess inadvertently scored an own goal, giving the home team an early advantage.
Burgess misjudged a cross from Florian Balogun, attempting to clear it but instead directing it into his own net, putting the USA ahead.
Following the initial goal, the USA maintained its offensive pressure and doubled their lead through Alex Freeman. He capitalized on defensive confusion within the penalty area, heading the ball powerfully into the net for the second goal.
This goal was confirmed by German referee Felix Zwayer after consulting VAR technology.
The early lead provides the USA with a significant advantage as they aim to secure three valuable points to move closer to advancing to the knockout stages. Meanwhile, Australia must find a way to respond and keep their hopes of advancing alive.
