Egypt’s Agriculture Ministry Concludes Livestock Vaccination Campaign with 8 Million Doses
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has announced the successful completion of its nationwide vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever. The campaign, conducted by the General Authority for Veterinary Services, administered approximately 8 million vaccine doses across villages and centers throughout the country to protect livestock from these diseases.
According to an official report received by Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, from Dr. Hamid Al-Aqnas, head of the General Authority for Veterinary Services, over 4.3 million cattle were vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease, while more than 3.6 million were vaccinated against Rift Valley fever. The vaccination efforts were complemented by educational campaigns aimed at raising awareness in various governorates.

Dr. Al-Aqnas emphasized that the campaign’s results reflect the efficiency of veterinary services and ongoing coordination among relevant authorities, as well as positive collaboration from livestock breeders across different provinces. He noted that the campaign not only focused on vaccinations to mitigate disease spread and ensure sustainable livestock production but also included registration, epidemiological surveys, and immediate response to any suspected cases. Additionally, efforts to enhance veterinary guidance were intensified to raise awareness among breeders about the importance of regular vaccinations.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to implementing preventive programs and monitoring the epidemiological situation regularly to ensure the health of livestock and increase productivity. It urged all breeders to adhere to regular vaccinations and contact veterinary units or call the hotline at 19561 for inquiries or reporting any suspected cases, in order to protect their assets and support food security in Egypt.
This initiative aligns with Minister Alaa Farouk’s directives to intensify preventive measures and safeguard livestock from infectious diseases, contributing to food security and sustainable development.
