This decision underscores FIFA’s commitment to including Egyptian officiating talent in key matches of the tournament, especially given the significance of this encounter in the group stage.

Brazil began its World Cup journey with a draw against Morocco, ending 1-1 in their opening match, which adds further importance to their next game in terms of group standings.

The officiating crew for the match will be led by Spanish referee Alejandro José Hernández, with José Enrique Naranjo Pérez serving as the first assistant and Diego Sánchez as the second assistant. Sandro Schair will take on the role of fourth official, while Stefan de Almeida will be the reserve referee.

The VAR team will consist of Carlos Del Cerro Grande as the main VAR official, assisted by Willy Delajodi, alongside Mahmoud Ashour, who has been appointed as a video assistant referee within the international officiating team for this match.

The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20, at 3:30 AM Cairo time at Philadelphia Stadium in the United States, as part of a tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This marks Mahmoud Ashour’s third appearance at the 2026 World Cup, following his involvement in officiating matches between South Korea and Czech Republic and Austria against Jordan.
