Bellingham Discusses England’s Victory Over Croatia in World Cup 2026
Jude Bellingham, midfielder for the England national team, reflected on his team’s 4-2 victory against Croatia in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing a marked improvement in their performance during the second half.
Bellingham told ITV, “In the second half, we truly showed our essence and the team we aspire to be.”.
He added, “I think we were a bit nervous and cautious in the first half; we were pushing a little too much for possession. However, in the second half, we found a great rhythm, and you saw our best side.”.
Regarding coach Thomas Tuchel’s remarks at halftime, Bellingham stated, “It didn’t require any dramatic speeches or shouting; it was exactly what the team needed. We have a mature group with outstanding leaders, and everyone understood the level we needed to reach. The start of the second half provided us with a strong foundation.”.
He continued, “Clearly, mastering this style of play takes weeks of hard work. All credit goes to the coach and his staff for placing us in a position to seize these opportunities.”.
Bellingham concluded by expressing his commitment to the team: “My responsibility to my country is to give my all when I’m on the pitch wearing the national badge. I want to contribute everything I can. It has been a long season for me, and it hasn’t gone as I had hoped.”.
England’s next match will be against Ghana on Tuesday evening, followed by their final group stage game against Panama on Sunday, June 28.
