Consumer Protection Agency Urges Quick Inspection for Affected Geely Cars Due to Manufacturing Defect
In coordination with the Consumer Protection Agency, Auto Mobility, the official distributor for Geely in Egypt, has announced a recall campaign for several models of the Geely Emgrand from 2025 to 2026. This action is part of preventive measures after identifying a manufacturing defect in the fuel tank ventilation system (canister), which may lead to various technical issues, including difficulties in filling the fuel tank to its full capacity, irregular fuel consumption, or deformation of the fuel tank from below. These issues necessitate a technical inspection and preventive repairs.
This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety while ensuring the protection of vehicle users and compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations. The company is fully cooperating with the Consumer Protection Agency to implement necessary corrective actions aimed at enhancing vehicle performance and safety for consumers.
The Consumer Protection Agency urges all owners of affected vehicles to promptly visit authorized service centers across the country for free inspections and repairs of the fuel tank ventilation system (canister) without incurring any costs or additional fees. Service will be provided by appointment through contact with the company’s hotline at (16402), ensuring that all work meets approved specifications within a suitable timeframe to facilitate quick service and maintain vehicle usability.

Abdel Ibrahim El-Segini, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, stated that this action aligns with the agency’s regulatory role and its ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety. This follows a formal notification from the brand’s distributor regarding a manufacturing defect in the fuel tank ventilation system that could result in technical malfunctions such as difficulties filling the fuel tank or irregular fuel consumption. He emphasized that the company has initiated recall procedures for affected vehicles and has provided all necessary technical details and corrective measures in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Agency to ensure swift action regarding this recall.
The Consumer Protection Agency will continue monitoring such cases closely and will take all necessary measures to protect consumer rights and ensure their safety. This initiative is part of compliance with Law No. 181 of 2018, particularly concerning provisions regulating product safety in the Egyptian market, which require suppliers to promptly report any potential risks arising from product use and undertake corrective actions as soon as defects are discovered, thereby promoting transparency and safeguarding consumer welfare.
