The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has awarded Norwegian star Erling Haaland the Man of the Match accolade for his performance in the World Cup 2026 match between Iraq and Norway, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Haaland earned this recognition through a fan vote on FIFA’s official website, following an impressive display where he scored two goals, playing a crucial role in leading his team to a resounding 4-1 victory over Iraq in their tournament opener.

This match marked Iraq’s debut in the current edition of the World Cup, where they showcased a commendable performance, particularly in the first half, managing to keep pace with Norway and creating several scoring opportunities.

However, Norway’s attacking prowess and experience, spearheaded by Haaland, ultimately secured the win for the Vikings in the second half, allowing them to collect their first three points in the group stage.

Despite the loss, Iraq received praise for their performance during key moments of the game, while Haaland continued to solidify his status as one of the standout players of the tournament since its inception.
