Egypt and Serbia Explore Direct Flight Opportunities to Boost Tourism
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy met with Serbian Prime Minister Dorde Maket on Tuesday to discuss enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Serbia in various areas of mutual interest during Maket’s current visit to Egypt.
The two sides explored opportunities for boosting tourism, particularly increasing the flow of Serbian tourists to Egypt. They discussed the proposal for a direct flight between Cairo and Belgrade, which would facilitate tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Fathy and Maket noted that Belgrade will host the “Expo 2027” from May to August 2027, where Egypt is expected to participate in this significant international event.
In this context, they discussed the possibility of including the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities within the Egyptian pavilion at the expo, showcasing Egypt’s unique tourist and archaeological assets.

They also reviewed several proposals for organizing cultural and tourism events alongside the expo, including the possibility of a temporary archaeological exhibition and activities that highlight Egypt’s diverse tourism products and styles.
The minister suggested utilizing new promotional films created by the ministry to introduce various tourism products and styles within the accompanying events at the expo. Additionally, they discussed establishing a mini-museum representing the Grand Egyptian Museum at the Egyptian pavilion, featuring replicas of artifacts including treasures from King Tutankhamun.
The discussions also included organizing events at Serbia’s National Museum to promote awareness about Egyptian civilization and its rich history, thereby deepening Serbian knowledge about Egypt’s cultural heritage and diverse tourism offerings beyond just beach tourism.
Moreover, they addressed opportunities for collaboration in specialized training and education in Egyptology to support scientific and cultural exchanges between both nations.
Prime Minister Maket expressed Serbia’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Egypt in wellness tourism, leveraging Egypt’s resources in this area to provide Serbian tourists with a comprehensive experience combining health treatments with various tourism activities.
The two officials agreed to consider forming a joint working group consisting of representatives from both countries’ private sectors to promote mutual tourism flows and increase tourist numbers between Egypt and Serbia.
