However, understanding Israel’s mindset is more straightforward. According to opinion polls, there is a significant level of support within both Israeli decision-makers and society for extremist approaches towards Lebanon first and Iran second.
In a special interview with journalist Samir Omar on Cairo News Channel, Rashwan emphasized, “Thus, translating this societal support into policies by the government and opposition is plausible. The fundamental question remains: Will the U.S. administration take a decisive stance that prevents Israel from violating the agreement, including large-scale military operations?”.
He continued, “Israel has other methods at its disposal, most notably assassinations. There are high-profile assassinations and more discreet ones. While Israel may avoid loud operations, it could resort to silent assassinations that appear as internal incidents but are attributed to it, especially in Iran, by targeting senior leaders.”.
Rashwan added that any agreement is likely to lead to a state of security and political relaxation within Iran. However, the question persists: Can Israel deliver major strikes? It has the capability; however, this hinges on Israeli political will, which is largely tied to the U.S. stance. I believe that President Biden will likely not permit such actions.
