Egypt’s Central Laboratories Achieve Regional Leadership with Over 500 Accredited Tests

Dr. Amr Qandil, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Health and Population, conducted an inspection tour at the Central Administration for Public Health Laboratories. He was accompanied by Dr. Radi Hamad, the Head of the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Sector, to assess operational efficiency and the technical performance level while reviewing the latest laboratory capabilities that support public health oversight.

The visit included inspections of several specialized departments and laboratories, where Dr. Qandil observed the latest technologies employed in microbiological and chemical testing, detection of pollutants, heavy metals, and pesticide residues. He also discussed plans for expanding international accreditation in the near future, which will enhance the status of public health laboratories as one of the leading accredited reference labs in the region.

During the tour, Dr. Qandil congratulated the central administration on receiving approval from the National Accreditation Council (EGAC) for food and water testing according to international standard ISO 17025. He emphasized that this achievement reflects the competence of technical staff and their ability to apply the highest international quality standards.

The Deputy Minister noted that the central laboratories have become among the largest accredited facilities for food testing, with over 500 different tests and elements accredited, confirming their leadership at both national and regional levels.

Dr. Qandil affirmed that this accreditation enhances trust in laboratory test results and supports food oversight systems, contributing to protecting public health and boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian products while opening more global markets to them.

He explained that developing public health laboratories and expanding their scope for international accreditation is a strategic priority aimed at enhancing health and food security. This initiative aims to elevate national readiness for laboratory oversight according to the highest global standards, assuring continued efforts by the ministry to update infrastructure and improve services, thus solidifying these laboratories’ status as distinguished national and regional references.
