The match between Iran and New Zealand ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, held during the first round of the group stage at the 2026 World Cup. This result has intensified the competition within Group F, which also includes Egypt and Belgium.

Iran started the match strongly but was caught off guard when New Zealand took an early lead in the seventh minute, courtesy of a goal from Elijah Just, assisted by Chris Wood.

The Iranian team quickly responded, with Ramin Rezaeian equalizing in the 32nd minute by capitalizing on a rebound inside the penalty area, leaving the first half at a score of 1-1.

In the second half, New Zealand regained the lead through Elijah Just once again, who scored his second goal in the 54th minute following another assist from captain Chris Wood.

However, Iran refused to back down and equalized again with Mohammad Mohbi scoring in the 64th minute after a precise cross from Ramin Rezaeian.

Both teams continued to push for a winner in the closing minutes, but neither could change the scoreline, resulting in an exciting draw that awarded each team one point.

This outcome leaves all teams in Group F with one point each, following Egypt’s earlier draw with Belgium in their opening match. This sets up a fiercely competitive environment for qualification as the tournament progresses.
