Written byFerdous Saeed

Mohamed Hani, a player for the Egyptian national team, expressed his disappointment following the 1-1 draw against Belgium in their opening match at the 2026 World Cup. He noted that the team was close to securing a victory, but bad luck prevented them from doing so.

The match ended with a positive draw for Egypt, showcasing a strong performance against one of the tournament’s top contenders.

In televised comments on MBC Masr, Hani stated that he expected to win the match, emphasizing that the team performed well and had opportunities to clinch the victory.

“I expected to win against Belgium, but misfortune deprived us of that,” he said. “We played with high spirits and gave our all; we could have taken all three points.”.

He explained that after conceding a goal, the Egyptian team sought to increase their offensive pressure and created several chances throughout the match but failed to convert them into goals.

Hani also mentioned that the coaching staff thoroughly analyzed Belgium’s gameplay leading up to the match, focusing on their strengths and weaknesses to mitigate their threats on the field.

Responding to predictions about facing off against Belgium’s Jeremy Doku, he remarked: “In big matches, there’s a lot of talk and banter before the game, but I focus solely on my performance on the field and prefer to respond after the match.”.

Concluding his statements, Hani affirmed that the team will work on correcting their mistakes and focus on upcoming matches in the group stage to enhance their chances of advancing to the next round.
