Written byFerdous Saeed

Dr. Kamal Shaieb, the legal advisor to Hani Shoukry, a member of Zamalek Club’s board, addressed the ruling issued today by the Cours of Misdemeanor in Qasr El-Nil regarding case number 3946 for the year 2026 against Shoukry. He stated that Shoukry was not informed or notified about the hearing date for this case, and the ruling was made in absentia. Shaieb confirmed that they would take legal steps to appeal this decision.

The court, presided over by Judge Mostafa El-Badawy, sentenced Hani Shoukry to six months in prison and set a temporary bail of 5,000 Egyptian pounds to suspend execution of the sentence. He was also fined 10,000 pounds and ordered to pay court costs for his conviction related to defaming and insulting Al Ahly Club fans.

The verdict came after the court established that the defendant had used derogatory language towards Al Ahly fans that undermined their dignity and constituted an affront to their honor through public means.

This case dates back to June 5, 2025, when a video circulated on social media showing Hani Shoukry leaving a funeral event. In the clip, he is seen greeting someone while stating: ‘I will shake your hand because you are respectable; I don’t shake hands with Ahly fans,’ followed by indecent remarks. This incident sparked widespread outrage within the sports community.

In response, Mohamed Osman, the legal advisor for Al Ahly Club, took necessary legal actions by filing an official complaint with the Egyptian Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee.

The Disciplinary Committee subsequently suspended Shoukry for three months, barred him from entering stadiums, and fined him 50,000 pounds, labeling his actions as a blatant violation of sportsmanship and an unacceptable offense against a prestigious sports institution and its supporters.

Al Ahly Club did not stop there; they also filed a formal complaint with the Attorney General supported by documents and digital evidence incriminating Shoukry. The Qasr El-Nil Prosecution began investigating the incident. During questioning, Shoukry acknowledged the accuracy of the video but claimed he did not intend to offend Al Ahly or its fans.

The public prosecution released him on bail of 5,000 pounds before referring him to misdemeanor court which delivered today’s ruling.
