Jesse Marsch, the head coach of the Canadian national team, shared his thoughts following the 1-1 draw against canada-in-world-cup-opener/">Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Canadian team narrowly avoided defeat at Toronto’s stadium on Friday night, managing to secure a point in their first group stage match.

Marsch expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance in the first half during an interview with beIN Sports. “I was frustrated with our first half; I felt we were hesitant and did not play with the intensity I had hoped for. We need to find a way to play with great enthusiasm and be a tough opponent. We talked about this after the match,” he said.

Marsch emphasized that there is still potential for victory as they progress in the tournament: “We can still win, and that’s crucial for our continuation in this competition. We must ensure that our upcoming performance reflects what we learned today and benefits from it.”.

He concluded by appreciating Toronto’s vibrant atmosphere: “Look, Toronto has been alive this week; we have enjoyed our time here immensely.”.
