Bernardo Silva Evaluates Options Amid Barcelona and Madrid Interest
Barcelona’s hopes of securing a free transfer for Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva this summer have taken a hit.
The 31-year-old is set to conclude his illustrious nine-year tenure with Manchester City when his contract expires on June 30.
Numerous European clubs, along with some from beyond the continent, have expressed interest in Bernardo, who plans to finalize his future after the 2026 World Cup, as confirmed by his agent, Jorge Mendes.
Earlier reports suggested that Bernardo preferred a move to Barcelona, with TEAMtalk indicating that an agreement had been reached with the La Liga champions.
However, it appears that the midfielder has reconsidered and is continuing to explore various options before making a commitment to his next club.

Bernardo Still Considering Options Despite Barcelona’s Interest
In comments made last weekend, Bernardo told reporters: “Barcelona is one of the options, but I haven’t made any final decision yet. There are many options and I have respect for all interested clubs.”.
He added, “Ultimately, I’m going to try to find a team where they want me, where I feel they really love me. That is very important and when I make my decision, they will know.”.
Additionally, Bernardo mentioned in an interview with Hello Magazine that he likely knows which country he will move to next but has yet to choose a specific team.
TEAMtalk reported that Bernardo had discussions with Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick shortly before making his recent comments and remains intrigued by the idea of joining the Catalan club.
Nevertheless, he has concerns about whether he would be guaranteed a starting position at Camp Nou, as Barcelona has not yet provided such assurances.
The club already boasts a wealth of talented midfielders, including Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, Marc Casado, and Marc Bernal—all vying for starting spots.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid Compete for Silva’s Signature
The uncertainty surrounding Bernardo’s future has opened opportunities for other clubs to compete with Barcelona for his signature. Spanish powerhouses Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are both in contention.
Sources indicate that Atletico is optimistic about their chances of securing Bernardo and offering him a significant role in Diego Simeone’s plans.
Real Madrid’s new head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly supportive of bringing Bernardo to the Bernabeu and has already approved signings like Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.
Additinally, clubs from the Middle East and MLS are also monitoring Bernardo’s situation; however, he believes he still has much to contribute at the highest level and considers La Liga as his preferred destination.
During his time at Manchester City, Bernardo earned legendary status under Pep Guardiola, making 460 appearances across all competitions and winning 20 trophies—including six Premier League titles and one Champions League title.
