Cairo Governor: Revenues from ‘Shak El Thuban’ Regularization to Fund Infrastructure Development

Engineer Khaled Hashem, the Minister of Industry, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber, the Governor of Cairo, delivered 43 contracts to factories and workshops in the Shak El Thuban industrial area following their legal regularization. The event was attended by Dr. Nahed Youssef, head of the General Authority for Industrial Development, Engineer Mohamed Zada, Assistant Minister for Strategic Industries, Engineer Sayed Abaza, Vice President of the Building Materials Chamber and Head of the Marble and Granite Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, along with several officials from the Ministry of Industry and the governorate.

During the contract handover ceremony, Hashem highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing the Shak El Thuban area as one of Egypt’s key industrial hubs due to its significant industrial capabilities that position it to become a leading global center for marble and granite production. He expressed gratitude to the Cairo governorate for its ongoing support of the industrial sector and for facilitating operations for industrial establishments in the region.

Hashem emphasized that the ministry aims to boost exports from the area and improve services provided to manufacturers to enhance productivity and competitiveness. He noted that the Industrial Development Authority plays a crucial role in streamlining industrial procedures for investors in Shak El Thuban, which contributes to increasing the number of legally regularized manufacturers and encourages new investments in infrastructure development within the area.

Additionally, Hashem indicated that alongside regularizing manufacturers’ statuses, efforts are being made regarding quarries in collaboration with relevant authorities to streamline operations across the entire system. He affirmed that the ministry is ready to provide all necessary support to investors in Shak El Thuban concerning production, exportation, or any technical assistance needed by manufacturers in marble and granite. Coordination will also occur with the Productivity and Vocational Training Authority under the ministry to offer regular training courses in Shak El Thuban to meet factories’ needs for skilled labor.

Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, stated that political leadership places significant emphasis on Shak El Thuban as part of implementing national strategies focused on investment, industry enhancement, and export encouragement while striving to create new job opportunities befitting the importance and status of this industrial area.

The governor highlighted that addressing legal regularization is a critical issue for the government as it protects state rights while allowing factory owners and workshops to operate within a clear and organized legal framework. He mentioned that all funds collected from regularization efforts are allocated towards developing infrastructure and improving services in the area.

Both Hashem and Saber listened to several requests from investors in Shak El Thuban regarding proposed solutions for overcoming challenges through coordination between the ministry and the governorate.
