African CDC Praises Egypt’s Medical Experience as a Model for the Continent

Dr. Amr Qandil, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Health and Population, welcomed a delegation from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) consisting of trainees and public health specialists from nine African nations: Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, Liberia, Gambia, and Sierra Leone. The visit aimed to examine Egypt’s pioneering experience in epidemiological surveillance and emergency health response.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the strong historical ties and strategic partnership between Egypt and the Africa CDC. He noted the Egyptian government’s commitment to enhancing health cooperation with African nations through knowledge exchange and capacity building to strengthen continental health security.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the delegation toured the Crisis Management and Emergency Operations Room. They learned about central coordination mechanisms to ensure swift decision-making and immediate responses. The delegation was also introduced to the electronic epidemiological surveillance system, birth and death registration systems, rapid response frameworks at both central and local levels, as well as national plans for managing health events.

Dr. Qandil highlighted the efforts of the Preventive Medicine Sector and central laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology. He also discussed the role of quarantine in safeguarding border crossings, disease vector control measures, and integrated coordination methods across various ministry sectors.

The Africa CDC delegation praised their warm reception and acknowledged Egypt’s advanced experience in crisis management and epidemiological surveillance. They affirmed that Egypt’s infrastructure and technical capabilities serve as a model for supporting health security across Africa.
