Morocco Faces Major Blow as Ziyech and Akord Ruled Out of World Cup Due to Injury
Reports have revealed that Morocco’s national team has suffered a significant setback ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with the confirmed absence of duo Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Nayef Aguerd due to injuries.
Morocco finds itself in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti, presenting a challenging set of opponents for the “Atlas Lions.”.
The Moroccan team recently played a friendly match against Norway, which ended in a 1-1 draw as part of their preparations for the World Cup. However, this match saw Ezzalzouli and teammate Noussair Mazraoui sustain injuries that forced them to exit early.
Medical examinations revealed that Ezzalzouli suffered a grade two sprain in the medial collateral ligament of his knee, necessitating an absence of approximately four to six weeks, thus officially ruling him out of the squad.
According to Spanish newspaper “AS,” Ezzalzouli, who plays for Real Betis, was a key player in coach Walid Regragui’s lineup and was expected to lead the left flank during the tournament.
Similarly, defender Nayef Aguerd from Marseille will also miss out due to injury. He will be replaced by Ameen Sbaai and Marwan Saadan.
The absence of these two players represents a significant loss for Morocco, especially with their highly anticipated opening match against Brazil in the World Cup looming.
