Chelsea is poised for a transformative summer transfer window as new manager Xabi Alonso sets out to reshape the squad. The club is already linked with several high-profile players, aiming to build a team capable of competing for major titles once again.

At the top of Chelsea’s wishlist is Real Madrid’s emerging talent, Arda Guler, who has caught Alonso’s attention.

Recent reports indicate that Alonso has marked Guler as his ‘priority target’ for the upcoming 2026/27 season. Chelsea is reportedly ready to offer a substantial financial package, close to £100 million, to entice Real Madrid into negotiations.

Alonso views the Turkey international as the ideal creative midfielder to anchor his revamped Chelsea squad. Guler’s skills in tight spaces, ability to deliver crucial passes, and knack for unlocking defenses make him an excellent fit for Alonso’s tactical approach.

Despite Chelsea’s significant interest, Real Madrid remains firm in their stance that Guler is not for sale and considers him an integral part of their long-term plans. Additionally, Chelsea faces competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, both of whom are closely monitoring Guler’s situation. However, reports suggest that Guler prefers to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A significant advantage for Chelsea is the established rapport between Guler and Alonso. The two worked closely during Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid, where Guler experienced some of the most productive moments of his career under the coach.

In 34 appearances last season, Guler scored four goals and provided ten assists while becoming a more influential player in the first team. He has openly credited Alonso with boosting his confidence and responsibility on the field. Describing their relationship as “brilliant,” Guler revealed they have kept in touch even after Alonso left Madrid. This bond could be crucial if he considers leaving Los Blancos.

While Real Madrid currently holds a firm position regarding Guler’s future, Chelsea’s interest aligns well with their managerial strategy. Alonso knows how to maximize Guler’s potential, and the player is already familiar with his former coach’s tactical philosophies.

The challenge remains whether this connection will be enough to persuade Real Madrid to entertain offers. However, if Chelsea aims to secure a significant signing this summer, their manager’s relationship with Guler could be their most compelling asset.
