Claude Le Roy Appointed Head Coach of Congo National Team for 2026 World Cup

The Congolese Football Federation announced the appointment of veteran French coach Claude Le Roy as the head coach of the national team. This move aims to rebuild the “Red Devils” in preparation for upcoming continental competitions.

Le Roy, who is 78 years old, returns to lead the Congo national team for a second time, having previously managed the squad from 2013 to 2015. He brings over four decades of extensive experience in African football.

Recognized as one of the most prominent coaching figures on the continent, Le Roy has previously led several major African national teams, including Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, leaving a significant mark on these teams during his tenure.

Joining Le Roy in his new coaching staff is Senegalese assistant coach Omar Daf, who has prior managerial experience with French clubs Sochaux and Amiens. Together, they aim to guide Congo towards qualification for the upcoming continental finals.

Congo finds itself in Group 11 for the 2026 World Cup alongside Portugal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia, and Uzbekistan.
