National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research Launches Digital Transformation Initiative
The National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing administrative and financial performance, supporting scientific research, and improving services for its staff. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to elevate the performance of research centers and institutes under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, thereby boosting operational efficiency and creating a motivating work environment.
Dr. Bassem Nabawy, the acting head of the institute, revealed that a broad meeting was held with institute leaders, research faculty members, department heads, and staff to develop an integrated vision for enhancing performance and maximizing the potential of researchers and scientists at the institute.
Dr. Nabawy outlined that the development plan focuses on several key areas: enhancing the institute’s role in serving the community by showcasing its various activities, supporting scientific research to elevate the institute’s status as a center of expertise in astronomy and geophysics, increasing training courses and publication rewards, and honoring outstanding researchers. The plan also aims to improve the institute’s journal, scientific museum, website, expand collaboration with international organizations, and enhance cooperation among scientific departments to fulfill the institute’s vision while promoting a shift towards clean energy through increased use of solar power.

Dr. Nabawy further emphasized that the development plan also seeks to enhance administrative and financial performance by updating work mechanisms to maximize available resources. This includes necessary maintenance work on facilities and improving the work environment to create a suitable atmosphere for staff. The plan also involves bolstering the technological infrastructure of the institute through coordination with telecommunications companies to enhance service quality and communication within the institute.
He reiterated the management’s commitment to launching a new phase focused on increasing employee satisfaction and fostering a sense of belonging within the organization. Dr. Nabawy stated that both administrative and research elements are fundamental to any institution’s success, emphasizing that achievements stem from collaborative efforts across all sectors.
The meeting discussed financial aspects as well as enhancing social and health welfare systems by exploring ways to provide medical services through increased funding for employee care programs. It also addressed revitalizing activities offered to staff, including social committees, sports clubs, and monthly recreational days aimed at strengthening interpersonal connections and boosting morale.
An open dialogue session allowed employees to share their suggestions and inquiries as part of an active participation strategy aimed at refining operational systems within the institute.
The meeting concluded with responses to attendees’ questions while reaffirming commitments to regular future meetings with staff during this new phase. The administration will maintain an open-door policy to foster collaboration among all employees, aiming to restore the prominent scientific and research status held by the National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research both locally and internationally.
Present at the meeting were Abdel Ghani Aziz, Secretary-General of the Institute; Legal Advisor Osama El-Gharawany; Financial Director Ahmed El-Rifai; Assistant Financial Director Mokhtar Suleiman; along with department heads from both scientific and administrative divisions.
