Minister of Agriculture Emphasizes Land Protection as National Food Security Issue

In a recent meeting, Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, convened with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate at the ministry’s headquarters to discuss various proposals and address citizens’ complaints from different governorates.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to continuous communication with representatives of the people.

During the session, lawmakers presented several requests, primarily focused on the distribution of subsidized fertilizers for certain crops, as well as issues related to land reform, land protection, and public benefit projects.

Farouk firmly reiterated that the system for providing and distributing subsidized fertilizers remains fully operational. He assured that quantities are consistently supplied from factories to agricultural cooperatives to meet farmers’ needs as part of the government’s efforts to support strategic crops and ensure food security. He emphasized that distribution processes are conducted regularly according to approved regulations, backed by a monitoring system overseeing these operations.

The minister also highlighted that through its research centers, the ministry has developed a comprehensive fertilizer map for agricultural lands nationwide based on soil analysis. This will accurately determine the actual needs for each crop and area.

The meeting included a thorough review of various service and developmental issues. The minister listened to requests concerning land reform matters and directed executive leaders to expedite their examination and resolution to ease citizens’ concerns and stabilize farmers. Additionally, he discussed lawmakers’ requests regarding enhancing the efficiency of certain agricultural cooperatives and improving advisory services across all villages and centers, along with reviewing proposals for establishing service projects benefiting local communities in different governorates.

Farouk reaffirmed his commitment to combating encroachments on agricultural lands with determination, labeling such actions as a red line that cannot be overlooked, directly impacting Egypt’s national food security.

At the conclusion of the meeting, members of both legislative bodies expressed their appreciation for Farouk’s dedication to these regular meetings and praised the ministry’s interactive approach and transparency in addressing issues affecting daily life for Egyptian farmers in support of agricultural production and food security.

Several executive leaders from the ministry were present during the meeting to monitor the implementation of directives regarding lawmakers’ requests promptly.
