Captain Ahmed Adel, Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, participated in the 103rd meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Air Transport Association (AACO), held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This participation underscores EgyptAir’s active role in international and regional organizational meetings, keeping abreast of the latest developments in the aviation industry and contributing to shaping sector strategies that support its growth and enhance its role.

The Executive Committee discussed significant updates impacting the aviation industry at both regional and international levels amid rapidly changing challenges and their direct effects on growth rates within the sector.

The committee also addressed the repercussions of rising fuel prices due to recent disruptions in global aircraft fuel supplies and production, which have led to increased operational costs for airlines, alongside growing commitments linked to environmental regulations.

Members of the Executive Committee emphasized the importance of ensuring sustainability within the aviation industry amidst current challenges, stressing the necessity for cooperation among governments and all stakeholders to support airlines and enable them to recover operational rates and growth.

The committee also reviewed recent developments regarding the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which focuses on offsetting carbon emissions generated by air transport. They highlighted the importance of standardizing global criteria for emission offset mechanisms and urged countries to expedite the production and use of sustainable aviation fuel.

Additionally, discussions included joint projects among member airlines of the association aimed at enhancing collaboration and integration, particularly in areas such as bulk fuel purchasing, digital transformation, aircraft maintenance, and training.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Captain Ahmed Adel invited heads of member airlines within the Executive Committee of AACO to hold the 104th meeting in Cairo next October.
