Manchester United and Manchester City Compete for Elliot Anderson Transfer
Manchester United remains optimistic about securing the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 23-year-old is expected to leave Forest, with Manchester City currently leading the race for the England international.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City is preparing a new official bid for Anderson, aiming to finalize a deal soon.
Despite City’s strong position, The Guardian indicates that Manchester United has not abandoned its pursuit of the former Newcastle United player. The club’s executives are reportedly ‘optimistic’ about their chances of bringing Anderson to Old Trafford ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Manchester United’s Optimism in Anderson Race
Manchester City’s initial offer for Anderson, estimated at around £80 million, was rejected by Nottingham Forest. There is a consensus that City is currently in the best position to complete the transfer.
However, Manchester United is determined and believes they can convince Anderson to join them in what would be a significant summer acquisition. Reports suggest that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has approved matching Anderson’s wage demands, estimated at approximately £150,000 per week.

Anderson’s Potential Value Surges Ahead of World Cup
The midfielder is poised to play a crucial role for England in the upcoming 2026 World Cup, and a strong performance could elevate his market value to over £100 million.
In addition, Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta BC for around £35 million. The Red Devils may look to add as many as three central midfielders this summer, especially as Casemiro is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of June and Manuel Ugarte is likely to depart due to his difficulties at Old Trafford.
