Everton Faces Competition for Chelsea’s Tyrique George Amid Loan Struggles
Everton has reportedly received a warning regarding the future of Chelsea winger Tyrique George, who has struggled during his loan spell with the club.
The Toffees secured a loan agreement for the England Under-21 international in the final hours of the winter transfer window. However, George’s time at Everton has been disappointing, as he made only one start and appeared as a substitute in ten matches in the Premier League.
With a £22 million buy option on the table, manager David Moyes and Everton officials are weighing their options regarding a permanent move for the 20-year-old.
According to TEAMtalk, Everton may not have an unobstructed path to securing George’s services.

Newcastle United Eyes Tyrique George
Everton has until the end of June to finalize a permanent deal for George, but reports suggest they are hesitant to pay the current asking price. There is a desire to renegotiate the fee with Chelsea; however, Blues officials may not see value in doing so at this stage of the transfer window.
Despite having just one year left on his contract, Chelsea is likely aiming to spark a bidding war if Everton does not act decisively.
Newcastle United is also monitoring George’s situation as they look to fill the void left by Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Barcelona. The chance to sign a promising young English player for significantly less than what they earned from Gordon could be appealing for Newcastle.

The Next Steps for Tyrique George
As a homegrown talent with six goals and six assists from 37 appearances, many Chelsea supporters would prefer to see George remain at Stamford Bridge rather than see him leave for players like Jamie Gittens or Alejandro Garnacho. Fans can express their opinions in Sports Mole‘s official Chelsea squad vote.
However, unless manager Xabi Alonso specifically wishes to retain George in West London, Chelsea may look to sell him to comply with financial regulations set by the Premier League and UEFA.
From George’s perspective, he should aim for a transfer that guarantees him regular starting opportunities—something unlikely at either Everton or Newcastle. Despite his evident potential, he will begin the 2026-27 season—just six months shy of his 21st birthday—with only 23 Premier League appearances and 531 minutes played.
Ultimately, rather than focusing on joining a high-profile club, George should prioritize finding a team that will provide him with ample playing time.
