June 18 Declared Official Holiday for Islamic New Year

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, has announced that Thursday, June 18, 2026, will be an official paid holiday in observance of the Islamic New Year. This date replaces the Gregorian calendar date corresponding to the first day of Muharram in the year 1448 AH, depending on the lunar sighting.

The decision applies to employees in ministries, government agencies, public bodies, local administration units, and public sector companies. However, examinations will continue as scheduled by the relevant authorities.
