Egypt Urges Swift Agreement Between the U.S. and Iran
Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Egypt has emphasized the critical need for a swift agreement between the United States and Iran, taking into account the concerns of all parties involved, particularly those in the region. This call comes amidst significant security, economic, and geopolitical challenges facing the area and the world in recent months.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt reiterated the importance of reaching this agreement to restore security and stability in the region and to address outstanding issues, including the Iranian nuclear file and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. These efforts aim to bring an end to conflict and restore calm.
Egypt stressed that all parties must respect fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly regarding state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the prohibition of using force to resolve disputes. It advocated for a focus on political and diplomatic solutions.
The statement also highlighted the importance of de-escalation and creating an environment conducive to reaching consensus agreements that would allow for addressing other crises in the region. This includes prioritizing the Palestinian issue as central to regional conflict by redirecting attention to the dire conditions in Gaza and the West Bank. Egypt called for completing the first phase requirements of former President Donald Trump’s peace plan and immediately initiating actions for its second phase.
