Iran’s National Team Urges FIFA to Resolve Visa Issues Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Written byFerdous Saeed

Iranian defender Ehsan Haj Safi has launched a strong attack on FIFA following the arrival of the national team’s delegation in Mexico on Sunday. The criticism stems from the ongoing issue of several administrative and technical staff members being denied entry visas to the United States.

The Iranian team arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This arrival comes amid administrative and political complications related to entering U.S. territory.

Visa Delays Anger Iran

The team captain expressed relief at finally reaching their training camp, noting that the players feel good ahead of their World Cup journey.

However, Haj Safi voiced his frustration over the significant delays in visa issuance. He pointed out that only a limited number of players and coaching staff have received their visas, while several members of the delegation are still awaiting completion of their applications.

The Iranian player highlighted that key figures in the administrative and technical team, including the team manager, executive director, and media director, have yet to receive their visas. He emphasized that their absence could disrupt operations within the training camp.

Haj Safi called on FIFA to intervene swiftly to resolve the issue and expedite visa processing for the remaining delegation members in the coming days.

Iran Prepares for Tough Matches at the World Cup

The Iranian national team is set to kick off its World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 15, followed by a match against Belgium on June 21, and concluding group play against Egypt on June 26.

Reports suggest that Iran may face the United States in the Round of 32 if both teams qualify from their respective groups.

While U.S. authorities approved visas for all players just days before the tournament begins, challenges remain for some members of the administrative and technical staff.
