Written byFerdous Saeed

The Brazilian national team has suffered a significant blow just days before their World Cup 2026 campaign kicks off, as star player Wesley, who plays for AS Roma, has been confirmed to miss the tournament due to an injury sustained during the recent friendly match against Egypt.

Despite Brazil’s valuable victory over Egypt, winning 2-1 in their final preparatory game for the World Cup, the cost was high as head coach Carlo Ancelotti lost one of his key players.

The right-back Wesley was unable to enjoy his participation in the friendly match, forced to leave the pitch in the 17th minute of the first half due to intense pain.

Officially, Wesley has been excluded from Brazil’s final roster for the World Cup after medical examinations revealed he suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh’s adductor muscle, ruling him out of the tournament.

In response to this unexpected absence, Ancelotti has called up Atalanta midfielder Ederson to fill the gap, having initially included him in the preliminary squad before finalizing the team list.

This decision grants Ederson an opportunity to showcase his talent at the World Cup, coming back into consideration at a crucial moment as Brazil loses one of its important options on the right flank ahead of competition.

Brazil will begin its World Cup journey in Group C, which also includes Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti. The team aims to secure qualification and continue its quest for global glory.
