Lamine Yamal Reflects on World Cup Memories and Euro 2024 Experience with Spain
Lamine Yamal, the rising star of the Spanish national team, has shared his early memories of the World Cup and reflected on the lessons learned from his debut in the UEFA Euro 2024, where he showcased impressive performances.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” Yamal recalled the first World Cup he followed as a child, highlighting the 2014 tournament in which Germany claimed the title.
He vividly remembers the iconic match between Germany and Brazil, along with the final of that tournament. However, he admitted that he does not recall the 2010 World Cup, and that he did not watch the 2006 edition because he was not yet born.
Turning to his experience in Euro 2024, the young player emphasized that it was a significant milestone for his mental development, particularly in managing pressure.
Yamal noted that he gained invaluable insights from participating in the tournament, especially during his first match. He stated that one of his key takeaways was learning how to control and cope with anxiety on the field.
He acknowledged feeling some natural nerves at the start of his international career but regarded this experience as a crucial step in shaping his identity as a player.
The tournament also helped him become calmer and more mature, emphasizing that long matches require focus and patience, and that any setbacks can be rectified in subsequent games.
Yamal concluded by stressing that major tournaments demand a high level of calmness and confidence, as performance tends to improve progressively throughout competitions rather than at their outset.
