Al Ahly Narrowing Down Candidates for New Head Coach Following Turup’s Departure

Written byFerdous Saeed

Al Ahly is preparing to announce the identity of its new head coach in the coming days, following the departure of Danish manager Jes Torup, who left the team after a financial settlement estimated at $1.25 million as part of a restructuring of the coaching staff.

The club’s football committee has narrowed down the list of candidates to three names: Portuguese Bruno Lage, Dutchman Mark van Bommel, and Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta.

Mark van Bommel: An Ideal Technical Choice Facing Financial Hurdles

Mark van Bommel is viewed by Al Ahly’s management as the most technically aligned candidate due to his style and leadership qualities. However, the high financial demands he has presented pose a significant obstacle to finalizing an agreement, despite ongoing negotiations between both parties.

Bruno Lage: Strong Support from Yassin Mansour

Former Benfica manager Bruno Lage has returned to the club’s radar as negotiations have reopened, buoyed by strong support from Yassin Mansour, Al Ahly’s vice president. Mansour believes that Lage is the most suitable choice to lead the team in the upcoming phase.

Hussein Amouta: A Strong Alternative Option

Among the various options being considered, Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta stands out as a viable alternative. His candidacy is strongly supported by Sayed Abdel Hafiz, who believes he could replicate the successful experience of Pitso Mosimane with Al Ahly, which saw notable achievements.

Mohamed El Khatib, the club president, is directly overseeing the selection of the new head coach in coordination with the football management team. The goal is to finalize a decision soon and identify the best candidate to lead Al Ahly in this critical phase.

The club aims to finalize negotiations for a new coach before the start of preparations for the upcoming season, allowing ample time for him to establish his tactical vision and determine any player transfers needed.

An official announcement regarding the new head coach is expected shortly after reaching a final agreement on all contractual terms related to the coaching staff.
