During a visit to Alexandria, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated the First Lieutenant Suleiman Ezzat Bridge, connecting 45th Street to the coastal international road.

Following the unveiling ceremony, Engineer Randa El-Manshawi, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, stated that the bridge represents a new traffic artery extending from the heart of Alexandria to the coastal international road. This development aims to provide effective solutions to alleviate traffic congestion in the eastern part of the city.

The minister emphasized that this project is among the largest strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure efficiency and improving traffic flow.

El-Manshawi highlighted that the bridge features a comprehensive multi-level traffic system designed to scientifically distribute traffic density. This ensures smooth movement from the Corniche road to the coastal international road. The project includes three traffic lanes: an upper lane for vehicles coming from Mustafa Kamel Street towards 45th Street, another upper lane connecting 45th Street to the coastal international road via the lower level of the bridge, and dedicated lanes for vehicles arriving from the international road and Al-Mamoura area, preventing traffic overlap.

Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, noted that the bridge represents a significant addition to the province’s road and transport system. The governor’s office is implementing a comprehensive suite of traffic projects aimed at reducing congestion by approximately 15% to 25% in key areas. He emphasized that this project marks a qualitative shift in the province’s road network and aims to optimize space under the bridge for public benefit while maintaining smooth traffic flow and preventing informal parking around it.

In this context, Prime Minister Madbouly directed officials to expedite utilization of vacant spaces beneath the bridge for various sports activities such as five-a-side pitches and tennis courts in coordination with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.

Major General Osama El-Ganzoury, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, explained that this project aims to accommodate increasing traffic volumes on both directions while reducing travel times between agricultural roads and coastal international roads as well as between southern, eastern, and western Alexandria. It also maximizes benefits from existing tunnels and bridges at the intersection of Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat Street.

Moreover, Major General Essam El-Gharably, Head of North Coast Central Reconstruction Authority under the Ministry of Housing, pointed out that the bridge spans a total length of 2.6 kilometers with an average width of 11 meters featuring three lanes in each direction. It was constructed by the Central Agency for Reconstruction with a primary goal of preparing Alexandria for an increasing number of vehicles while alleviating congestion for residents in Sidi Bishr and on 45th Street. This project aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 aimed at transforming major cities into advanced logistical and tourist hubs connected by modern road networks linking residential areas with national highways.
