Prime Minister Opens First Phase of Al-Ghorabli Industrial Complex in Alexandria
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, inaugurated the first phase of the Al-Ghorabli Industrial Complex in New Borg El Arab, Alexandria today. The complex is operated by Al-Ghorabli Company, which specializes in integrated engineering works and the manufacturing of steel structures.
Upon his arrival at the site, Madbouly emphasized the critical importance of steel structure projects, highlighting their role in supporting various developmental and productive sectors. He noted that a robust and advanced manufacturing industry in this field directly accelerates the implementation of numerous national and developmental projects, particularly in infrastructure, industry, transportation, and energy.
Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, reiterated that the iron and steel industry is a cornerstone of the national economy. He stated that it plays a vital role in supporting industrial development and achieving the government’s objectives within this crucial sector.
Hashem pointed out that this industry is essential for providing necessary production inputs for many industrial and developmental sectors, thereby enhancing the national economy’s capacity for growth and expansion.
The industrial complex spans 315,000 square meters and has an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 tons. It employs around 3,000 workers and engineers, with plans to increase its workforce to 5,000 in future phases.
During a tour of the facility, Engineer Ahmed Sobhi, Operations Manager at Al-Ghorabli Industrial Complex, explained that strategic partnerships are being developed with leading European and global companies such as Trelleborg, Fiedor Group, Metal-Technik, Erciyas, and Tabor to facilitate technology transfer and localize production for export.
The first phase includes a metal structures factory that serves as the backbone of the complex. It occupies a vast area of 100,000 square meters with an exceptional production capacity exceeding 100,000 tons annually.
Sobhi added that the factory primarily uses locally sourced iron and steel, enabling it to play a pivotal role as a strategic partner in supporting major national projects such as the Presidential Initiative “Decent Life,” New Abu Qir City “Abu Qir Port,” and the Western Crescent Project.
The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and employs 1,500 specialized workers. It features Egypt’s largest machine for producing large beams up to 60 meters long and 3.5 meters high. Additionally, it has giant rollers capable of handling steel thicknesses up to 130 mm.
The maintenance workshops at Al-Ghorabli are among the largest in Egypt by area at 50 thousand square meters. They employ up to 700 trained personnel capable of executing repairs on machinery with an estimated monthly capacity for engine overhauls reaching 20 units up to one megawatt.
The first phase also includes a plant for industrial and medical gases with a production capacity of 550 cylinders daily to meet both internal company needs and external demands.
Looking ahead to phase two of the complex’s development plan, Engineer Moatasem Al-Ghorabli expressed ambitions for deeper industrial partnerships to enhance technology transfer capabilities. The second phase aims to establish collaborations with foreign companies focused on increasing exports while creating new job opportunities.
In conclusion of his visit to Al-Ghorabli Industrial Complex, Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the importance of expediting the establishment of phase two factories in collaboration with global companies. He emphasized that products manufactured through these facilities are crucial for meeting local market demands while also supporting national industry and enhancing production capabilities across several vital sectors.
