Essam El-Hadary Evaluates Mostafa Shobeir’s Performance Against Brazil
Essam El-Hadary, the former goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team, provided his assessment of Mostafa Shobeir’s performance during the friendly match against Brazil, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Egypt as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
El-Hadary noted that Shobeir made an error during the first goal, explaining that passing the ball to Mohamed Lashin put his teammate under significant pressure. He emphasized that a direct clearance would have been a better decision to avoid danger.
The former star goalkeeper clarified that he does not hold the young keeper solely responsible for the goal but stressed the importance of avoiding such mistakes in official matches, where the cost of errors is much higher.
Despite this, El-Hadary praised Shobeir’s overall performance in the match, highlighting that he showed good form in several instances and contributed to maintaining team balance against a strong Brazilian attack.
He rated Shobeir an 8 out of 10, expressing a desire to give him a higher score but noting that the mistake on the first goal impacted his final evaluation.
In another context, El-Hadary discussed Shobeir’s future, suggesting that if he receives an overseas offer after the World Cup, it would be best for Al Ahly to allow him to leave. He pointed out that with a goalkeeper of Mohamed El-Shenawy’s caliber at Al Ahly, this move would provide Shobeir with an opportunity for a valuable professional experience and further skill development.
