Florentino Pérez has entered the race for the presidency of Real Madrid with a strong sense of confidence, showcasing what he considers historical achievements during his tenure before the upcoming election against candidate Enrique Riquelme.

Pérez stated in comments reported by Spanish newspaper “Marca” that his connection to Real Madrid dates back to his childhood, emphasizing that his love for the club was instilled in him by his father. This deep-rooted passion ultimately led him to take on leadership responsibilities during challenging times.

The president of the club noted that Real Madrid faced significant challenges when he first decided to run, asserting that he successfully addressed financial crises and restored economic stability, transforming the club into one of the strongest sports institutions in terms of value and revenue.

Pérez dismissed criticisms regarding the team’s lack of trophies this season, arguing that the number of titles achieved during his presidency speaks for itself. He pointed out that maintaining constant dominance in football is unattainable but stressed that Real Madrid’s continental achievements under his leadership are unmatched by any other administration.

Regarding José Mourinho’s potential return as head coach, Pérez acknowledged the Portuguese manager’s significant role in the club’s history. He noted that Mourinho’s previous tenure rekindled the team’s competitive spirit and laid the groundwork for subsequent European successes, expressing full confidence in Mourinho’s tactical and leadership abilities.

On transfer matters, Pérez emphasized that Real Madrid’s global stature attracts top stars who aspire to wear the team’s jersey. He asserted that the club must recruit the best talents to maintain its position at the pinnacle of world football.

The president also addressed rumors about a rift between Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, clarifying that such incidents are often exaggerated and occur naturally within any competitive locker room. He highlighted that the real issue lies in leaking details to the media.

Pérez criticized Riquelme’s election promises regarding signing Erling Haaland, stating that all parties associated with the player have denied these claims. He labeled such statements as part of an election campaign lacking credibility.

Additionally, Pérez unveiled a major project underway at the club, announcing plans to make a €150 million bid for one of Europe’s top football stars. He revealed that this targeted player is currently competing in a team involved in the UEFA Champions League but not playing in the English Premier League. The player is known for exceptional offensive capabilities originating from midfield and is expected to be a major surprise for fans.

He concluded by affirming that Real Madrid has not finished its activities in the transfer market yet, indicating that recent signings are merely a beginning for a more ambitious project. The anticipated player will be akin to legendary figures who have left an indelible mark on the club’s history, such as Luís Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo Nazário, Kaká, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
