Written byFerdous Saeed

Sports journalist Ahmed Shobair has revealed the latest developments regarding the managerial position at Al Ahly, stating that Dutch coach Mark van Bommel is currently the leading candidate to take over the role in the near future.

In comments made during a broadcast on “On Sport FM,” Shobair noted that while Al Ahly has not yet made a final decision, van Bommel is the most actively discussed name among potential candidates. He emphasized that negotiations are ongoing.

Shobair added, “There is a surprise related to this matter, but I prefer not to disclose it at this moment to avoid affecting the negotiations,” clarifying that this does not pertain to any technical evaluation of the coach.

He pointed out that Adel Mustafa had collected his belongings from the club and was considered a candidate to lead the team during preparations should there be delays in resolving issues with the previous coach. However, circumstances changed following the settlement of Yess Torup’s situation.

Furthermore, he indicated that Al Ahly is preparing to announce a new administrative structure soon, although some details remain unresolved. The management aims to finalize all matters before making an official announcement.

Shobair confirmed that the new administrative setup will include Wael Gomaa as Director of Football, Issam Sarag as Head of Transfers, and Anis Boujelbane as Director of Scouting.

He reiterated that while van Bommel remains the top candidate, he is not yet the definitive choice, especially since Al Ahly was also close to signing Hossam El Badry before fan objections led to a reconsideration.

The club has faced challenges recently; however, these have not drastically impacted operations. Shobair stated that things are beginning to stabilize and management is working calmly to get the team back on track.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of finalizing player contract renewals for individuals like Hussein El Shahat, Kahraba, and Afsha. He stressed the need for flexibility in negotiations to ensure team stability ahead of the new season.
