Written byNoha El Shafie

Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with members of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council to discuss potential economic collaborations.

During the meeting, Minister Abdel Aty highlighted the positive developments in the Egyptian economy, attributed to the economic reform program and measures taken by the government to enhance the investment climate and boost national economic competitiveness.

The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation with Japan, including plans for establishing a Japanese industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This initiative aims to increase the presence of Japanese companies and leverage the incentives and competitive advantages offered by the area.

He underscored the need for increased Japanese investments in Egypt, reflecting the significant potential of strategic relations between the two countries and the available investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.

Minister Abdel Aty pointed out that Japanese financial institutions provide support and funding tools to encourage Japanese companies to expand their investments in Egypt. He also outlined government efforts to support Japanese investments, including a dedicated follow-up mechanism for Japanese companies at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, aimed at addressing any challenges they may face.

Furthermore, he invited the Japanese business community to take advantage of promising opportunities in several priority sectors in Egypt, particularly renewable energy, infrastructure, water desalination, electric vehicle manufacturing, and clean energy-related industries. This aligns with Egypt’s strategy to localize industries and enhance reliance on renewable energy sources.

The minister expressed hope for continued collaboration with the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council to attract more Japanese investments, which would enhance economic and trade cooperation between both nations. He also suggested organizing an Egyptian-Japanese investment forum in Cairo with broad participation from both countries’ business communities to explore available investment opportunities and strengthen bilateral economic partnerships.
