Dr. Rehab Taha Appointed to Oversee Non-Banking Financial Sector

Dr. Islam Azam, the head of the Financial Regulatory Authority, has appointed Dr. Rehab Taha to supervise the non-banking financial sector while continuing her role as the Authority’s Chief Research and Development Advisor.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Authority indicated that this decision is part of its plans to enhance regulatory mechanisms across various non-banking financial activities, aiming to improve regulatory efficiency and support the country’s economic objectives while stimulating market activity and protecting consumer rights.
Dr. Rehab Taha has served as the Chief Research and Development Advisor since June 2019, bringing specialized expertise in regulatory policies and the development of non-banking financial markets. She also oversees institutional research and development efforts aimed at supporting regulatory decision-making and enhancing institutional performance.
Throughout her career at the Authority, Dr. Taha has played a pivotal role in developing legislative and regulatory frameworks by participating in drafting numerous executive decisions governing various activities, contributing to the establishment of trading rules for futures contracts, and leading the team responsible for implementing Basel III standards related to capital adequacy to enhance risk management and financial stability within the sector.
She has been instrumental in establishing standards for property valuation as well as assessing machinery and equipment, contributing to guidelines for evaluating intangible assets. These efforts aim to ensure accurate fair value assessments for intellectual and innovative assets, facilitating access to funding for startups and entrepreneurs, thereby fostering an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship in Egypt.
Additionally, she actively participated in developing and monitoring the implementation of the Financial Regulatory Authority’s strategy (2023–2026) to enhance the contribution of the non-banking financial sector to economic growth and achieve sustainable development goals.
Dr. Taha holds both a PhD and a Master’s degree in Investment and Finance, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Cairo University. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder with a diploma in feasibility studies and investment project evaluation from Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Science. Her research has been published in reputable international journals.
She possesses a rich academic and practical background in financial markets, having served as an adjunct lecturer in investment and finance at several Egyptian universities including Cairo University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Modern Sciences and Arts University, and October 6 University.
