Tax Authority Confirms No Increase in Natural Gas Prices for Households

Written byNoha El Shafie

Ragab Mahrous, advisor to the head of the Tax Authority, has denied any increases in natural gas bills that consumers would bear. He confirmed that there are no additional taxes imposed on homes or factories.

Mahrous stated that amendments to the value-added tax (VAT) do not affect citizens directly, as the tax is addressed to suppliers rather than consumers. He emphasized that there would be no increase in natural gas costs for either residential or operational use in factories.

He noted that the VAT law includes positive amendments and legislation that benefit consumers, taxpayers, and investors. Mahrous assured that these changes are designed to favor citizens and highlighted that the new law targets companies rather than end consumers.

He also mentioned that natural gas is state-owned and not privately owned, as it is one of the country’s natural resources.

Earlier today, Rasha Abdel Aal, head of the Tax Authority, reiterated that the ongoing discussions in Parliament regarding taxes on natural gas would not lead to any increases in household gas prices. She assured that end consumers will not incur additional financial burdens due to these amendments.
